Spotlight on Sponsors: Fenimore Asset Management and FAM Funds

By Gail Browning

Since the establishment of Fenimore Asset Management (FAM) 42 years ago, founder and chairman Tom Putnam has developed a culture of giving to and investing in non-profit and other community resources throughout the New York’s Capital Region.

Fenimore Asset Management is the advisor to FAM Funds, which maintains a Contribution Committee whose members serve a two-year term. The committee’s purpose is to review funding requests from non-profit organizations and initiate community service projects. These projects have included: painting the dressing rooms at Proctor’s Theater; cooking and serving food at the Schenectady City Mission; sorting food at the Regional Food Bank of Northeast NY; restoring homes that were flooded during Hurricane Irene; various tasks at the Cobleskill Fairgrounds; and painting rooms and the gymnasium at Schenectady ARC. The company also provides underwriting to several charities to fund public service announcements on the radio.

The pinnacle of Fenimore’s yearly financial giving occurs during the annual FAM 5K Fund” Run/Walk. Since 1994, this charity event has been held each September, having grown to about 800 registrants and 150 volunteers. It demonstrates their associates’ commitment to the community and is a fun-filled, memorable day in the spirit of family, wellness, and worthwhile causes. Participants include 22-year race veterans, multigenerational families, professional racers, and walkers of all ages. Each year, the proceeds are donated to several local charities on a rotating basis. Most recently, Catholic Charities of Delaware, Otsego, and Schoharie Counties; Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care; Schoharie County ARC; and Schoharie County Community Action Program have benefited from the race.

Landis is pleased and proud to be included among the number of organizations that Fenimore Asset Management supports.
